The early history of Volcan

Volcan began its first mining operations on the heights of the Ticlio pass in 1943. After half a century worth of contributions to mining, the company continues to experience strong growth. The Ticlio mine was comprised of a group of 30 mining concessions granted by the Peruvian government to be exploited by the group’s holder, Volcan Mines Co. In 1944, Volcan started production at the Ticlio mine. The ore was sold to the Mahr Túnel concentration plant that belonged to the Cerro de Pasco Copper Corporation at the time.

In 1997 Volcan Compañía Minera S.A. acquired Empresa Minera Mahr Túnel S.A.–owner of the San Cristóbal and Andaychagua mines–at public auction efor US$127,777,777 in cash
